New Subject Coding System Introduced

13 August 2018

The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) has introduced a new subject coding system known as the Higher Education Classification of Subjects (HECoS) to be used from academic year 2019/20.

HECoS has been developed to replace JACS and created to randomly generate code identifiers to avoid the coding frame ever running out of space. You can find out more information on the new coding system and help with attributing the correct HECoS code to your courses on the HESA website.

Our developers are currently working on our Courses Management Service (CMS) and when course collection opens for AY 2019/20 you will be required to submit HECoS codes when adding your courses to CMS.

We will provide you with further guidance closer to the time of course collection for AY 2019/20.
