HEP Bulletin – January 2018

31 January 2019

We welcome your feedback to ensure that this bulletin is of value to you and your organisation.

Attendance Liability 2

Please be advised the deadline for attendance confirmations for liability 2 has now passed.

If you have not yet submitted your attendance confirmations please do so as a matter of urgency, however please be aware that we cannot guarantee these will be included in the first payment run.

Course Submission

For providers who have registered with the Office for Students, and providers in Scotland, Wales, NI and ROI, you should have been invited to commence course collection.

So far, over 250 providers have submitted almost 47,000 courses which is in line with SLC preparations for service launch. Our Account Management team have begun to review submissions and we have found 7% of these have anomalies in their course set-up.

Some of the anomalies that have been picked up so far include incorrect tuition fee information being entered; incorrect term dates being entered, leading to course being incorrectly classed as a 'long course'; and a misunderstanding of the rules around the restrictions on when term dates can begin and end.

To help ensure you enter the correct course information, please refer to our CMS guidance documents located here.

It is your responsibility to ensure courses are accurate and our Account Management team will contact you shortly if your courses have incorrect information that may lead to incorrect student entitlement.

Course Submission Deadline

For those who are able to submit courses the deadline is 31 January 2019. Whilst we appreciate that you may have commenced course submission later than normal due to registration with Office for Students we would encourage you to work towards this deadline so your courses can be validated.

Should you require any support when setting up your courses please contact the Partners Support Desk or your Account Manager and we will be happy to assist you.

Student Support Seminar 2019

Our annual seminar allows Higher Education Providers and The Student Loans Company (SLC) to come together to share insight and knowledge on the student finance system and how it interacts with the student experience of education.

This year our seminar will examine the current system and plans for future changes, and consider how we can optimise our services to ensure we treat every student as an individual. Please register on our Events website. We hope to see you there!

SLC/HEP Service Agreement

Following informal reviews, we are not planning any changes mid-academic year 2018/19 with the exception of updated references to the Office for Students.

We have agreed that we will roll over the service standards as is for AY 2018/19. However, we have made a commitment to monitoring part-time and postgraduate products with a view to formal inclusion from AY 2019/20.

On 25 May 2018 the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect.

The GDPR is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union. It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. The GDPR aims primarily to give control to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.

As part of the changes to this regulation SLC is required to clarify its position as a Data Controller, therefore we issued GDPR agreements to you.

We still have a large number of outstanding agreements. We realise that you may not be directly responsible for signing the agreement, but we ask you to liaise with your colleagues to ensure you return this to us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so.

Negative Attendance Code and No Change of Circumstance

SLC have seen an increase in the submission of negative attendance codes with no follow-up CoC, with nearly 9000 outstanding that are over 60 days old. We are looking for some insight as to why this might be as we know each HEP operates differently. Any thoughts on this would be gratefully received – please let us know by contacting your Account Manager.

Finally, with this in mind, if you have outstanding CoCs to submit, please do so as soon as possible.

If you’d like to receive the monthly HEP bulletin to your email inbox please contact your Account Manager.
